By default, Bugzilla does not search the list of RESOLVED bugs.
You can force it to do so by putting the upper-case word ALL in front of your search query, e.g.: ALL tdelibs
We recommend searching for bugs this way, as you may discover that your bug has already been resolved and fixed in a later release.

Description Francois Andriot 2012-06-11 03:24:02 CDT
Hello, when using TDE's smb4k on Centos 6, I get the following error message at startup:

-----
Either your PATH environment variable is not set properly or there are the following programs missing on your system:

umount.cifs & smbumount

Please correct this and restart Smb4k.
-----

Alas, the distribution packages are installed, but the expected binaries do not exist at all.

Trinity's version of SMB4K is 0.9.4.
But there is a stable 0.9.10 version upstream:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/smb4k/files/Smb4K%20%28stable%20releases%29/

Should we import it to Trinity, or use it "as is" from upstream ?

If it's the latest stable to have worked with KDE3, I think it should be imported to TDE.

I can confirm this same exact error to occur on Debian Squeeze.

After some research, it appears that using umount functions as a suitable replacement for umount.cifs, but I'm not sure whether or not that can be used to replace smbumount.

From what I know umount.cifs had been obsoleted upstream and no longer exists with fresh-enough versions of cifs-utils. smbumount tool is even older than umount.cifs and as a general rule it does not exist on "modern" linux installation for about five years or so.

Thus it should be investigated if 0.9.10 upstream version is KDE3/Qt3 compatible and do not require umount.cifs/smbumount to present and it that is the case Trinity should either import 0.9.10 or switch into using upstream sources (in case they are still maintained).

If 0.9.10 is not KDE3/Qt3 compatible or if it still does require two utils in question to present on disk - some effort would be needed to fix smb4k so it won't require these utils which are now considered obsolete.

This bug is marked for TDE 3.5.13, so I feel obligated to mention that this bug is also valid on the R14 nightlies as of today (12 December 2014 Easter Time).

I can confirm this bug, as exactly as original poster described, still arises on Trinity 14.0.6 stable, Debian Stretch stable 64bit.
