Attached "Choose Editor" -> "Choose Editor Component" patch pushed in commit 00ab7746. Okay I've modified it so far to do two things. 1) reorder the settings correctly. 2) move the settings to the view section. This is because those settings belong there and it doesn't really make sense to have the elsewhere. It should help keep the view settings constant. todo: figure out why in gods name that is is saying "Configure Editor..." not "Configure KWrite...". For the love of God I've been staring at this all night. But of course the kpart for kate is in tdelibs.... sigh. Ok so I don't know how to make this slot call. What is being called is the slot configDialog, which is in katedialog.cpp in tdelibs/kate/part/ however I don't know how to connect that slot from kwrite directly Calvin Where is your patch? Lost in deep space, I apologize. Changing status back to NEW for too long inactivity |
Created attachment 689 [details] Change text string "Choose Editor" -> "Choose Editor Component" Trinity apps order the layout of the Settings menu in a predictable order. Settings ... ... Configure Shortcuts... Configure Toolbars... Configure APP_NAME... With this convention the "Configure APP_NAME..." menu option should always be last in the menu. This creates a consistent look-and-feel among all apps and fosters improved usability. With KWrite this conventional and expected order is different. The order should be: Settings ... ... Configure Shortcuts... Configure Toolbars... Configure Editor Component... Configure APP_NAME... Further, APP_NAME should be "KWrite" and not "Editor." Most users neither understand nor care that KWrite is basically a Kate part app. The current terminology is geek speak. The human mind grows accustomed to conventions. This different order should be fixed. A paper cut candidate. I'm attaching a nominal patch to modify the menu item text from "Choose Editor" to "Choose Editor Component," which is a tad more understandable and matches the associated dialog title. I don't know how to change the menu order or change "Configure Editor" to "Configure KWrite" (With coaching possibly I can patch the requested changes).
