Confirming. This only happens on certain computers; I suspect a race condition between usplash, Xorg, and kdm due to the new Upstart scheme. I believe this problem is fixed in kdebase-kde3 4:3.5.10-2ubuntu8. It was indeed a race condition in the kdm-kde3 Upstart file; essentially KDM was loaded on a udev trigger, and then reloaded on the graphics-device-added trigger. The file has been repaired such that it now properly handles multiple start commands (i.e. ignores the later ones). If you find you still have the problem after updating your system, please reopen this bug! Is kdebase-kde3 4:3.5.10-2ubuntu8 part of the current ISO for Kubuntu 9.10 Karmic KDE downmix? If so, the problem still persists. If not, a repackaged ISO should be provided to allow an installation at all. Karmic is no longer supported. Please use a more up to date installation image to install TDE. Closing this bug as WONTFIX. |
