By default, Bugzilla does not search the list of RESOLVED bugs.
You can force it to do so by putting the upper-case word ALL in front of your search query, e.g.: ALL tdelibs
We recommend searching for bugs this way, as you may discover that your bug has already been resolved and fixed in a later release.

Description Alex Couture 2013-04-28 20:07:02 CDT
It would be nice to have the choice to set a color gradient for the windows background, instead of having just Win95-ish grey window background. I already saw the RISCOS theme on a much older KDE3 version with a textured bitmap as the background, so it is surely possible to do, either as a background gradient or as a picture.

Thanks!

Alex, what exactly do you mean by window background? Is it the window title bar? Could you post a make-up screenshot of what you mean?

Example window with and without gradient in the background

Hi!

I posted 2 screenshots of KCalc, on KDE 4.11. One is using Oxygen style and the other is using Plastique style.

As you could see on the picture, the slight gradient in the color of the background provides a more visually-pleasing appearance than with the Plastique style, which uses a flat grey background. It is just a slight difference, but is always there. We are not in 1995 anymore, and it just looks better. Such a slight gradient in the color would not make the text completely unreadeable, as some persons here will claim.

After searching a little bit, I found that the reason it was possible to do it on earlier releases of KDE (3.2 and around...), was because KDE still had a pixmap theme engine. A pixmap theme engine might be less powerful than a programmed theme engine, but is makes it possible for persons like me to create a theme. On KDE 3.2, with the RiscOS theme, a picture could be used as the window background, making it totally possible to have a gradient as the window background.

It would be nice to find a way to re-introduce one day the pixmap theme engine.
I already had a ''bug - request for enhancement'' about this. I don'T remember the number, but you can search for ''pixmap theme engine''.

Thank you!
-Alexandre

Thanks Alex, now I have a better understanding of what you meant.
