By default, Bugzilla does not search the list of RESOLVED bugs.
You can force it to do so by putting the upper-case word ALL in front of your search query, e.g.: ALL tdelibs
We recommend searching for bugs this way, as you may discover that your bug has already been resolved and fixed in a later release.

Bug 157

Summary: kopete does not close temporary files
Product: TDE Reporter: endre
Component: tdenetworkAssignee: Timothy Pearson <kb9vqf>
Status: RESOLVED INVALID
Severity: minor CC: bugwatch, darrella, michele.calgaro
Priority: P5
Version: 3.5.13.x [Trinity]
Hardware: i386
OS: Kubuntu Karmic
Compiler Version: TDE Version String: 3.5.11 [Trinity]
Application Version: 0.12.7 Application Name: kopete

Description endre 2010-03-08 03:27:47 CST
Kopete creates a few files every few hours under /tmp/kde-<username>, named msnpicture--xxxxxx, opens them and does not ever close them afterwards. This causes it to run out of filedescriptors about once or twice a week. The files are always 0 bytes long so I think there is a problem with data transfer that's not handled correctly.

A fix has been uploaded to Trinity SVN in revision 1107501. Automatically
built packages for Lucid will be generated within a couple of days; if the bug
is still present at that time (or if you see broken functionality) please reopen this bug report.

Thanks for reporting!

Was forced to revert patch due to instability.

I am also not certain that the behaviour you describe is actually a bug in Kopete; from what I can tell MSN makes avatars available to the user and those are what are being downloaded. Also as far as I can tell, they should only be deleted on Kopete close.

It wouldn't be a bug to download pictures and I wouldn't really care if it were just leaving temporary files there. The problem is that kopete keeps all temporary files open and runs out of file descriptors after a few days of running. After that it behaves erratically, not displaying icons, not formatting chats (instead it displays some CSS in the chat window) and such, until I restart it.

Thanks for the detail; now I understand the problem better.

I will revisit this bug when I have more time to analyse it properly.

Is this report still valid?
Comment 6 Michele Calgaro 2018-07-27 03:15:18 CDT
MSN protocol no longer exit and there is no longer any support in Kopete.
I believe it is ok to close this bug. Feel free to reopen it if you think otherwise, and explain why.
