By default, Bugzilla does not search the list of RESOLVED bugs.
You can force it to do so by putting the upper-case word ALL in front of your search query, e.g.: ALL tdelibs
We recommend searching for bugs this way, as you may discover that your bug has already been resolved and fixed in a later release.

Bug 199

Summary: Installing KDE 3.5 in lucid attempts to remove the sudo package

Description Sissy 2010-05-14 22:40:57 CDT
When installing KDE 3.5 (kubuntu-desktop-kde3) in K/Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid, the sudo package is marked for removal (not upgrade, and it doesn't appear to be replaced by anything). This occurs both via the command-line and with use of Synaptic.

An easy workaround is to use Synaptic, mark all requested changes, and then go unmark sudo by hand, but this option isn't available to those using the CLI (as per instructions on http://apt.pearsoncomputing.net/install.html), and the removal of sudo gets lost in all of the other changes appearing on CLI.

It is removing sudo because it is installing sudo-kde3. Let it proceed (if you want to be safe, set a temporary root password first).

This is needed because Ubuntu's sudo does not have the Trinity bin directory in its hardcoded root paths, so launching Trinity applications with sudo is either impossible or very difficult, depending on your system configuration.

Oh, I see. Thanks for the clarification.

The first time I tried to install KDE 3.5 in Lucid (via the CLI), I did let it proceed as normal, but the installation failed (there was a problem with removing sudo, though I don't have the exact output). I went ahead with install via synaptic, keeping the ordinary "sudo" package, but based on your comment it seems that it would be better to install the kde3 version. I tried this, and it didn't work -- apt returned error messages identical to those in Comment 2 on Bug #54 (http://bugs.pearsoncomputing.net/show_bug.cgi?id=54#c2). I'll watch out for updates on #54.
