By default, Bugzilla does not search the list of RESOLVED bugs.
You can force it to do so by putting the upper-case word ALL in front of your search query, e.g.: ALL tdelibs
We recommend searching for bugs this way, as you may discover that your bug has already been resolved and fixed in a later release.

Description Alex Couture 2014-11-02 07:37:35 CST
Hi,

On Ubuntu 14.04 with TDE R14 nightly builds, the Crystal window borders lockup TDE to a point where the computer is almost unuseable, just after the Crystal window boder is set in KControl. I tought it was a twin bug, but is seems to be more related to kcontrol (possibly the preview) and kdesktop

I have debug output screenshots.

Thank you!

Ok, here is the attachment:
twin.zip 10.7 MB

The 1997-like 2mb file size limit has its limits :)

Size limit increased to a saner value; I don't think anyone's going to be able to upload any pirated junk in 20MB. ;-)

Great! Anything interesting in the debug output?

Thank you!

Won't be able to look at this for a few days as I am in the middle of overhauling the build farm. In the meantime can you upload the attachment to this report instead of mega?

Thanks!

Unfortunately there isn't much that's useful in there beyond that the problem seems to be related to grabbing the background wallpaper (this makes sense as that's how the fake transparency works). kcontrol is busy in CrystalButton::drawMenuImage so you are likely largely correct in your analysis.

Is this a regression? If not then the best way forward is probably using the twin compositor to provide true transparency.

Thanks!

Hi,

Yes, works perfectly on PCLinuxOS with 3.5.13.2
If you test my remaster, you'll see it at work as the default window border.
But maybe PCLinuxOS is so much better than the others that it has less bugs :)

Another detail that seems strange is that is the window border itself seems to work properly most of the time, once it is set and that I found a way to reboot.
It really seems to be something with the preview.

Thank you!

I'm pretty sure this was resolved with the fix for Bug 2176. Can you test and confirm?

Thanks!

Hi,

Maybe one day it wolud be interesting to have true transparency (form compositor) available for th window border? As an example, if the active window overlaps another window, this window should be seen and not the destop.
