This bug can be extended to KEdit as it exhibits the same behavior described above in it's text editing area. I noticed something like this in LibreOffice as well. I have mixed feelings on this; I set the Standard Background to grey on one of my machines to dim the background color of all TDE applications and make that machine easier on my eyes. How should we allow users to do that if this bug were fixed? How should we allow users to do that if > this bug were fixed? That's not something you need to "allow" since any decent computer monitor has a way of adjusting brightness and contrast. Even my crappy laptop provides a way to do so via function key combo, without needing to tell the OS to watch for when I press it. Most color themes in TDE provide a good set of colors by default that, while they may hurt the eyes at full brightness and contrast, seem perfectly safe (at least on LCDs) when the brightness and contrast are reduced to match the ambient brightness of the room. Besides, the colors should not apply to editable documents. This won't be a huge deal for some people, but it will for others who work on documents where formatting is everything since having the color of the on-screen document a different color than the paper used to print can interfere with getting that color just right. Not to mention people really will be confused by that: I was, I found myself searching the KWord settings for ten minutes to try to turn the page white again, before finally realizing that I needed to look elsewhere to fix it. |
Created attachment 2369 [details] Screenshot of the issue In KWord, the wrong color is displayed on the page. The correct color should be white. This is in KWord only, not in other KOffice applications. Upon testing, it seems that it gets the color from Control Center -> Appearance & Themes -> Colors -> Standard Background as changing the color there causes KWord to change the page color after restart, and these two colors always seem to match. However, this behavior is undesirable since people generally expect the colors on the page to be what the printer prints, and thus people may find this confusing.
