This is not a bug. :)
>I converted from KDE and renamed .kde to .trinity.
If you mean converted from KDE4, then the two profile folders are not compatible.
If you mean converted from KDE3, the KDE3 profile needs to be converted and updated to Trinity standards. Copying or renaming the KDE3 profile will not work and is guaranteed to break. To convert the KDE3 profile:
* Exit Trinity.
* Rename the existing ~/.trinity to ~/.trinity.bak
* Start Trinity.
The starttde script will automatically run the r14-xdg-migrate script, which will also automatically run the migratekde3 script.
When complete the KDE3 profile will still exist and a new TDE profile will have been created.
If you do not want to lose existing configuration settings in ~/.trinity, then try the following:
* Exit Trinity.
* Switch to a console.
* Login with your user account.
* Run '/opt/trinity/bin/r14-xdg-update force'.
* Watch the stdout.
The preferred method is the first method.
I thought this was covered in the release notes, but perhaps not.
As far as I can see it's not in the release notes. The right place would probably be https://wiki.trinitydesktop.org/UbuntuInstall#TDEUpgrade but currently it doesn't mention it there. Bob, if you follow the correct way to migrate from KDE3 to TDE, do you still have the problem with KAlarm? If not, it is just a matter to update the documentation on our wiki site. I expect it was just because I did it the wrong way. The old profile was KDE3. It would be difficult to test, so I can't really answer your question. I notice the release notes / installation instructions etc (as far as I checked) still make no mention of conversion of an old profile. To close this bug it is enough to update the wiki to explain the correct upgrade procedure (see comment 1) Added entry in the Tips And Tricks wiki page. https://wiki.trinitydesktop.org/Tips_And_Tricks That makes sense, and some people might look there, but there's still no mention of it at https://wiki.trinitydesktop.org/UbuntuInstall#TDEUpgrade and presumably there should be as I said in comment 2, even if only a link to the tips and tricks. None of the comments disagree with this idea. Hi Bob, I have added a note in the mentioned page and also on the corresponding debian page (under the "Upgrade from v3.5.13.x" section). Please check and let us know if it looks better. If you are satisfied, please reclose the bug report, otherwise let us know what is still wrong. Great :) |
