do the following: $sudo passwd enter new root password then $su - enter root password and then #sudo apt-get install kubuntu-desktop-kde3 I have this problem, too. Can someone explain, why the conflict arises? It sounds to me as if kubuntu-desktop-kde3 has its own version of sudo. Why is this necessary? Can there be conflicts with other desktops if they bring another custom sudo with them? I had this problem too on ubuntu maverick but I found a solution. Problem: To install the package sudo-kde3 the package sudo must be first uninstalled. Because of no root password there are extra checks on remove sudo. But the error message also tells the solution: "If you have arranged other means to access the root account, and you are sure this is what you want, you may bypass this check by setting an environment variable (export SUDO_FORCE_REMOVE=yes)." Solution: Replace the last command by sudo env SUDO_FORCE_REMOVE=yes apt-get install kubuntu-default-settings-kde3 kubuntu-desktop-kde3 This will replace sudo package. I don't know why it has be replaced at all. Had the same problem installing Trinity on Ubuntu 11.10 (32-bit). The workaround steps mentioned on the bug worked for me, although it's _disconcerting_ to uninstall (reinstall?) sudo. But sudo is still here, thankfully. I'd "vote" for this bug as a priority - Ubuntu 11.10 is crying out for desktop alternatives to Unity and Gnome 3. Thanks for taking the trouble to package and bug-fix KDE3 and Qt3! - Nigel |
