By default, Bugzilla does not search the list of RESOLVED bugs.
You can force it to do so by putting the upper-case word ALL in front of your search query, e.g.: ALL tdelibs
We recommend searching for bugs this way, as you may discover that your bug has already been resolved and fixed in a later release.

Bug 242

Summary: Akregator forces external browser to front
Product: TDE Reporter: Darrell <darrella>
Component: tdepimAssignee: Timothy Pearson <kb9vqf>
Status: NEW ---
Severity: enhancement CC: bugwatch, darrella, wofgdkncxojef
Priority: P5
Version: R14.0.x [Trinity]
Hardware: All
OS: All
Compiler Version: TDE Version String: 3.5.10
Application Version: 1.2.9 Application Name: akgregator

Description Darrell 2010-08-23 23:08:59 CDT
akgregator provides the option to use an external web browser to view feeds. When the user selects a feed to read, akgregator forces the web browser focus to the foreground, disrupting the ability to continue browsing the feed list in akgregator.

The design intent of this behavior seems to be to select and view one feed at a time. Awkward.

A normal way to browse the feed links is to open successive feed links in the external web browser but keep the web browser in the background. When done viewing the list of feeds in akgregator, then select the web browser to view the content.

One workaround is to change the akregator focus settings to always stay in the front. That too is awkward because often a user needs or wants to temporarily stop viewing the feed list to focus on another desktop task, but must first remember to minimize akgregator to the panel or tray.

Solution: provide an option to keep the external web browser in the background.

I don't know what happened with this. I'm using Trinity GIT daily and unlike KDE 3.5.10, I have no special window settings for Akregator. Selecting a feed link to read the full story opens Firefox in the background.

I don't know whether there was some obscure code cleanup in Akregator, Firefox or twin.

I'll leave this request open for a while yet, in case I stumble across the difference in behavior.

Update: This bug still exists in R14.
Comment 3 Darrell 2014-09-20 21:19:33 CDT
Nominal workaround with Firefox: set browser.tabs.loadDivertedInBackground = true
Comment 4 Darrell 2014-09-21 15:42:17 CDT
Regarding the previous comment and using Tabmix Plus, ensure 'Events->Tab Opening->Focus/Select tabs that open from: Other applications' (extensions.tabmix.loadExternalInBackground=true) is disabled.

Note: QuiteRss, a Qt4 (not KDE) app, handles this behavior nicely.

i think that this depends just on the browser....
