Read about the same problem on a website just a few days ago. We should definitely address the problem for the next release. I think there should be a warning in the webpage (if ubuntu users have the same problem it would be bad for the project). I posted the release news in slashdot and I think is a great project, but that's a huge drawback (I'm trying to revert the changes to avoid installing the OS again, with no luck). Any clue about what's the problem? >Any clue about what's the problem?
No idea at the moment, I don't even use Ubuntu to be honest. But I agree that it is a big drawback and we definitely need to have a look at that.

In VirtualBox, I did an install of Ubuntu 15.04, the added the TDE repositories using the instructions from NoobsLab: http://goo.gl/Y7nBRF During the update, I stuck with lightdm vs. the TDE option. When the update completed the terminal said: > Errors were encountered while processing: > tdm-trinity > kubuntu-desktop-trinity > tdetheme-trinity > E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1) I then successfully logged out of Unity and into TDE. Logged out of TDE, selected Unity and the login didn't progress far before a dialogue popped up to say "System program problem detected. Do you want to report the problem now?" I selected Report Problem, but was never provided the option of viewing the error. The dialogue just closed. On a console I killall Xorg and tried unsuccessfully to log into Unity. Killall Xorg again and was able to log into TDE and grabbed the two attached session files. I'd love to have this working, so please tell me if you need anything else. Raised importance to "blocker", since this bug has the potential to prevent users from trying TDE out. Once this bug is fixed, let's make sure we inform this website http://www.noobslab.com/2015/09/trinity-desktop-great-taste-of-kde-35.html so they will be able to amend the news. Bug was combination of three independent problems: 1) Name of systemd service (tdm-trinity.service) was not match to the name of binary (tdm). This causes problem in dpkg configuration scripts of other display managers. Fixed in tde-packaging - 55eba1f8 (master), 792dcb70 (r14.0.x) 2) Gnome and Unity uses gnome-session to start session. And gnome-session now require XDG_SESSION_DESKTOP and XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP from display manager. Fixed in tdebase - aa0711c1 (master), a3f5b3a4 (r14.0.x) 3) Gnome and Unity uses their own compositor. This causes conflict with compton-tde if was used in TDM. Fixed in tdebase - fce47f53 (master), 405d9087 (r14.0.x) Note: Updated binary packages will be soon available in preliminary stable builds repository. I just did an install from the Preliminary Stable Builds and it seems to be fixed! https://wiki.trinitydesktop.org/Preliminary_Stable_Builds Thanks for the quick response. Thank you for your testing. Therefore, I close this bug report. |
