*** Bug 278 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. *** Install the python2.6-dev package to fix this bug. Updated packages for Maverick will mark python2.6-dev as a dependency. Installed "python2.6-dev" through Synaptic Package Manager, but "Monitor and Display" no longer shows under "System Settings"! Please set the Platform information on this bug report to match your Linux distribution and installed architecture. I am unable to replicate this bug on Ubuntu Maverick or Ubuntu Lucid, both i386 and amd64. It is possible that you have a corrupt installation. Which PPA did you install KDE3/Trinity from, the kde3-maintainers PPA or the trinity-nightly-builds PPA? Installation was from http://apt.pearsoncomputing.net/cdimages using the Kubuntu 10.04 Trinity Desktop AMD64. Disk was verified prior to installation. "Monitor and Display" was originally available under "System Settings" but resulted in the "Library files for "libpython2.6.so" message when trying to access. "Monitor and Display" disappeared in the process of fixing bug 276. I can live without it for now since my system APPEARS to be using the appropriate 1920 x 1080 now that the drivers have been properly installed. Not sure if this affects anyone else. If not, I'm willing to close this bug if you recommend doing so. There is one more item that I may be able to check; can you attach the output of this command to this bug report? dpkg -l | grep kde3 > packages.list Thanks! Created attachment 39 [details] Listing as requested for bug 277 Hopefully this is what you were looking for. Yes it is. It shows that the kde-guidance-kde3 package was removed from your system; if you reinstall kde-guidance-kde3 the display configuration module should show up again. That brought back "Monitor and Display", but under the "Hardware" tab it now shows "Graphics card: VESA driver (generic)" and Monitor: <unknown> while the Acer 24" display actually SEEMS to be running at 1920 x 1080 and the ATI hardware drivers for my HD 4870 seem to be loaded - there is a "Remove" option on that item. And the "Size, Orientation & Positioning" tab only shows options for 640 x 480 and 800 x 600. I tried rebooting to see if that would help, but still have the same results. What you describe is a known issue and will need to be fixed in the future. Just noticed that down in the "System Tray" area (sorry - I'm primarily a Windows user and am not sure what the Linux term is for the lower left corner of the display) there's a "Screen resize and rotate" applet that DOES show 1920 x 1080 with a refresh rate of 60 Hz and using Output port DVI-0. That looks like it gives me everything I might want, as long as I use the "Hardware Drivers" item under "System" to make any needed changes to my graphics card. Is it worth keeping this open as a bug? Or is mine probably the only system out there with this problem, in which case I do not mind closing the bug report? Go ahead and leave this bug open for now. I am going to change the priority to an enhancement request, as you have noted there is the same functionality located in a different program. NOTE TO DEVELOPER(s) WORKING ON THIS RFE: The proper XRandR functionality to support this feature exists in libkrandr, located in kdelibs. Fixing this application should be a simple matter of writing a C++ GUI around the existing libkrandr library, in a similar manner to the krandrtray application. If it's already documented elsewhere, should I change the status on this bug report to resolved? Or would you prefer to leave it open? Sorry - I see our comments crossed in the ether! Got it, and concur. Thanks for your help! Let me know if I need to do anything else. Resolved, as for user comments. |
