This enhancement should not download any icons, not just don't display them. :) There is a work-around. Use kwriteconfig or manually edit akregatorrc: [HTML Settings] EnableFavicon=false Apparently any app that uses an [HTML Settings] section can control such options through the khtml engine. Using this work-around, I confirmed that both favicons are not displayed in akregator but also not downloaded. That is, $TDEHOME/cache-`uname -n`/favicons does not exist when EnableFavicon=false. Still needed to close this bug report is a GUI control. Not directly related to this bug report, I don't believe a GUI control exists for konqueror. Bumping to Minor because there is a work-around. The work-around does not survive a restart of the Trinity session. Quitting akregator, deleting the $TDEHOME/cache-`uname -n`/favicons directory, and restarting akregator in the same session results in no favicons. Logging out and back into Trinity causes all favicons to reappear in akregator, even when EnableFavicon=false in akregatorrc. Adding a GUI check box should be straightforward, but additional code will be needed to honor that setting. A preliminary patch is available in bug report 1360, attachment 1046 [details].
The new check box is in Settings->Appearance.
The control correctly updates the user's akregatorrc file.
The patch does not yet control fetching favicons. Although the akregatorrc file changes to EnableFavicons=false, the icons are still fetched and displayed.
