Sorry, three problems. Updating indexes can go a very long time because http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=265326 Perhaps this bug is in the TDE/KMail too, but I can't test it now. Confirmed: With kde3 and kde4 I could switch between KMail(s). TDE/KMail need to update indexes. KDE4/KMail2 uses Akonadi as backend. This bug is not actual now I think. We probably could close this report. But--- For most people, conversion of KMail 1 files to KMail 2 in KDE 4 likely is a one way desire. I tested this and although KMail 2 / Akonadi never complains about the KMail 1 indexing, the reverse is not true. Every time I opened mails touched by KMail 2 /Akonadi, KMail 1 in Trinity complained about indexing. The complaint was always one-time, but a nuisance nonetheless and is repeatable. Before closing this report we probably should look at how indexing is handled in KMail 2 / Akonadi and adapt Trinity KMail 1. One reason is some KDE users are unhappy with the AKonadi framework and might want to revert back to KMail 1. For such users, despite being a one-time nuisance dialog, not having any dialog is better. That said, KMail 1 was updated and patched up to KDE 4.4.11 before becoming saddled with the Akonadi framework. Note that KMail 2 expects to find mail files in an XDG compliant location of $HOME/.local/share/local-mail. We probably should create a new report to update Trinity KMail with that XDG expectation. Recommendation: Update the indexing scheme so that Trinity KMail 1 causes no dialogs for users with both environments. This resolves complaints from users testing KMail in both environments, allows reverting without incident, and serves as a good will gesture towards KDE as well. I'm guessing the problem is minor and will need only nominal attention. Close. TDE and KDE4 compatibility is not a target of TDE. |
