541 is the original bug against nightly builds. Details are unchanged otherwise. This is interesting. I found /usr/share/system-config-printer/system-config-printer.py behind a menu item with the helpful title of "printing" (T menu -> Settings). Lo and behold, that let me set up the printer. Even gave me the option for all the different drivers. So CUPS is apparently there and working, just not via the standard Admin-level printer setup screen. Using Ubuntu 11.10 with Trinity 3.5.13 plus Slavek's PPA's. When adding a USB printer the printer manufacturer windows is empty. I fixed it using "sudo apt-get install foomatic-db". This removed foomatic-db-compressed-ppds and added /usr/share/foomatic/db/source/driver /usr/share/foomatic/db/source/opt /usr/share/foomatic/db/source/printer I can now add a USB printer with the wizard. foomatic-db-compressed-ppds looks like it might be worthwhile to support, if it isn't too difficult to do so. *** Bug 541 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. *** (In reply to comment #4) > foomatic-db-compressed-ppds looks like it might be worthwhile to support, if it > isn't too difficult to do so. It looks like all interaction with the compressed PPD database is via this script: /usr/lib/cups/driver/foomatic-db-compressed-ppds tdelibs/tdeprint/foomatic would need to be updated to interact with that script, which may not be so simple. For now, I'm going to simply cause tdeprint to conflict with foomatic-db-compressed-ppds (packaging GIT hash df629cd) and see if adding compressed support becomes necessary in the future. Thanks for reporting, and for the fix! |
