Whether I see an image in the tooltip popup varies, even with png images. With the svgz I might see a white block, a black block, or the image. When I see a thumbnail of an svgz image, the image is not a full proportional thumbnail but clipped.

Some of the png images are not viewable either.

I am using $PREFIX/share/wallpapers to test this bug (with a fully populated directory from all main packages).

The problem with the thumbnails being white or black is misleading. The problem is that all thumbnails are being clipped and not shown fully. Thus the thumbnails that appear as white or black is merely the result of that color being the color in the top left portion of the image. :-) That is, the image thumbnail is being displayed but only appears to be all white or all black.

Also, only the svgz are being clipped. The jpg and png images appear normal in the preview thumbnails.

Therefore the sole problem is the svgz thumbnails being clipped rather than being shown fully. Looks to me like only the top left corner of all svgz images are being shown.

I can confirm this bug report.  It also seems to affect the icon view image previews.

Out of curiosity, since this is marked as a regression, what was the last known working KDE/TDE version?

Quick testing indicates the problem exists in 3.5.10. Probably not a regression. :-)

This may be related to ksvg, as it appears to be responsible for enabling embedded .svgz image viewing.

This is long-standing KDE bug 67042

Way back in 2003 ksvg automatic fitting was broken in this commit:

So technically this report is a regression, but from a long time ago. ;-)

Fixed in GIT hash 6792dcd (tdegraphics).  You will need to delete your ~/.thumbnails cache after rebuild/reinstall in order to regenerate the correct thumbnails.
