Hi,

although my idea of additionally installing Trinity into Ubuntu Karmic seemed to work quite well at first I have now run into quite a big problem: Programs like Quanta, Krecipes, Tork and some others can't be installed :-/

'sudo apt-get install quanta-kde3' gives me the following message (all in german, but I' sure you'll see what it's all about):

###

E: Kaputte Pakete
###

Trying to fix the above error with 'sudo apt-get install quanta-kde3 kfilereplace-kde3' results in this:

###
Die folgenden Pakete haben nicht erfüllte Abhängigkeiten:
kfilereplace-kde3: Hängt ab: kdelibs4c2a (>= 4:3.5.9) soll aber nicht installiert werden
  quanta-kde3: Hängt ab: kfilereplace-kde3 (= 4:3.5.10-0ubuntu1) aber 4:3.5.10-0ubuntu4 soll installiert werden
Hängt ab: klinkstatus-kde3 (= 4:3.5.10-0ubuntu1) soll aber nicht installiert werden
Hängt ab: kommander-kde3 (= 4:3.5.10-0ubuntu1) soll aber nicht installiert werden
Empfiehlt: kxsldbg-kde3 (= 4:3.5.10-0ubuntu1) soll aber nicht installiert werden
E: Kaputte Pakete
###

Similar errors occur with other programs while others (which don't depend on kdelibs4c2a) can be installed without any problem.

Trying to install kdelibs4c2a via Synaptic pops up a dialog with this message:

###
Hängt ab: kdelibs-data (> 4:3.5.10.dfsg.1)
Hängt ab: kdelibs-data (< 4:3.5.10.dfsg.2)
###

Am I correct in assuming that kdelibs4c2a and kdelibs4c2a-kde3 currently cannot coexist on the same system at the same time? Any ìdea how to fix this without removing one of the two KDE installations completely?

Mea Culpa, but this is a "Me, too!"

I am unable to install Quanta-kde3 due to the same "kdelibs4c2a conflict".

Ubuntu 9.10 kde 3.5.11 (and kde 4.whatever )
My first failure occurred when attempting to install install Quanta under
kde 3.5.11 WITHOUT kde 4.whatever being installed.
Next I re-installed kde 4 and still got the error attempting to install
Quanta in kde 3.5.11.
Then, what-the-hell, I tried installing Quanta over in kde 4 and _that_ failed
with "Depends: kde-libs". Doing apt-get install kde-libs in kde 4 was going
to REMOVE what seemed to be ALL of my kde 3.5.11 install. So, I went no
further with _that_.

What is very worrisome is the lack of any response to this problem in over 2
months since the original post...

(As an aside, I'm also trying to install Quanta via the tar-ball. But,
I encounter an error in make:
/usr/include/ksharedptr.h:90: error: 'class KSharedConfig' has no member named 'ref'
 -- trying Quanta 3.5.8, 3.5.7, 3.5.6, 3.5.5 ....
But, that's a whole 'nuther problem...)

As I've mentioned before, the official KDE3.5.10 Ubuntu packages cannot coexist with the new KDE3/Trinity packages. Also, they should have been purged a long time ago, so if you find something you cannot install you need to mention it here. This bug cannot be closed as the only resolution is to fix each problem package by adding it to the KDE3/Trinity archives.

That being said, the lack of response is twofold. One, I am still finishing the upload of all Trinity packages to KDE SVN (this process is almost complete). Two, I don't remember quanta-kde3 having an installation problem; it looks like the offical archives took the quanta-kde3 name (some time after I started using it) and created a whole mess of problems as a result. I'm probably going to have to bump the version number on mine to match the official archive as a temporary fix.

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

This A.M.'s XX---XX-kde3 updates went in without error.
Then, `sudo apt-get install quanta-kde3` ran without error, as well.
