Description Alex Couture 2013-05-12 10:04:25 CDT
Hi all!

TDE has a theme engine for using the TDE theme is GTK2 and GTK3 apps, but TDE and Qt3 doesn't have tons of themes available, and most of these themes are starting to get a little old...

If we see this idea backward, it would be nice to have the ability to use GTK2 (or GTK3) themes in TDE. This is a feature that is now part of the few last releases of QT4 and KDE4.

As an example, on my PCLinuxOS non-official TDE remaster, I have QtCurve for TDE installed and QtCurve for GTK2 installed. QtCurve for Qt4 is mostly only available when KDE4 is used, but since I don't have KDE4 installed, in Qt4 I use the GTK2 version of QtCurve. This way, I can have QtCurve in GTK2, Qt3 and Qt4 programs.

This all works well for a special theme like QtCurve, which has GTK2, TDE and KDE4 versions of it, but if I would like to use another theme, which only exists in GTK2 (or GTK3), I could use it on GTK and in Qt4 apps, through it GTK theme engine, but not in Qt3... This is where an engine to use GTK2 (or GTK3) themes in Qt3 and TDE would be useful!

Agreed. I work with mixed environments and multiple distros. The lack of themes in TDE is noticeable. There are many GTK2/3 themes. Using those themes would avoid reinventing the wheel.

Note: GTK2/3 icon themes can be used by TDE, but with limitations because GTK icon themes typically do not support all KDE/TDE apps.

Yep, either this or revive the pixmap theme engine could be good solutions.
