By default, Bugzilla does not search the list of RESOLVED bugs.
You can force it to do so by putting the upper-case word ALL in front of your search query, e.g.: ALL tdelibs
We recommend searching for bugs this way, as you may discover that your bug has already been resolved and fixed in a later release.

Description Darrell 2013-12-01 13:12:46 CST
Within the past month or so app focus has stopped functioning dependably. About half the time when I start an app, the respective taskbar icon flashes but the app does not pop to the front of the desktop.

For years I have had focus prevention set to Low and have not had this problem.

There have been recent patches to threading issues. A wild guess is those patches are causing the problem or have exposed a prexisting latent bug.

I have not noticed any pattern as to when the app pops to the front and does not.
Comment 1 Timothy Pearson 2013-12-01 16:29:08 CST
Do you use Firefox? If so, when the app fails to pop to the foreground, is Firefox in the foreground?
Comment 2 Darrell 2013-12-01 16:59:06 CST
I use Firefox but that app is running all the time. Therefore I don't see the problem with FF.

The problem is not non-Trinity apps, of which I use very few. The problem occurs with Trinity apps. For example, I double-click on a text file in konqueror and kwrite opens. Sometimes kwrite pops to the foreground and sometimes not.

I have a watchdog shell script running in the background that opens a kdialog upon a desired incident. Soemtimes the kdialog pops to the foreground and sometimes not.

In each case the taskbar icon flashes but the app does not pop forward.

I can't say for sure when this started but seems in the last month or so. As I stated, I don't see any (predictable) pattern as of yet.
Comment 3 Timothy Pearson 2013-12-01 17:29:15 CST
The reason I asked is that I have seen non-Trinity apps (specifically Firefox) prevent Trinity apps from appearing in the foreground (i.e. the non-Trinity app retains focus). I don't know why that is.
Comment 4 Darrell 2013-12-01 17:40:41 CST
Okay. I'll keep that in mind the next few times. I updated to FF 25.0.1 on Nov. 19. I was using 23.01 since late summer and skipped 24.x.

Darrell, is this bug still valid?
Comment 6 Darrell 2014-03-07 13:52:41 CST
Still valid. I am using Firefox 24.3.0esr if that makes any difference, which is running almost all the time on my system.

Apps and dialogs simply fail to pop to the front. I know of no way to repeatedly test this. I have seen this behavior for longer than reported, only that in the past many weeks the bug has become more noticeable and more annoying.

Lost focus TDE14

I experienced the same bug here too, with a new freshly installed TDE 14.
When I launch an application from terminal, the application window does not get focused, even with every other apps closed (only kterm open).
This bug was not present in my TDE 13 on my Debian 7 Wheezy.
I attached a screenshot.

Also happens to me. I would appreciate a fix

Hi all
I see this issue has been opened a year and a half ago, and there's no progress.
Does focus works fine for all except for the 3 poor guys that complained here ?
Can I provide more info to help devs with a fix ?

thanks
popo

No, probably this problem is common to many. I haven't paid much attention before, but I think is also happening on my system from time to time.
The reason there has been no progress is that the active developers are few and the bug to fix are many.
Anyhow since this bug may actually be annoying several people, I have added it to bug 2233, which should give it a little more visibility compared to the majority of unfixed bugs.
