By default, Bugzilla does not search the list of RESOLVED bugs.
You can force it to do so by putting the upper-case word ALL in front of your search query, e.g.: ALL tdelibs
We recommend searching for bugs this way, as you may discover that your bug has already been resolved and fixed in a later release.

Description Alex Couture 2013-12-27 07:27:43 CST
Hi,

Still on my Asus EEE X101CH with Ubuntu 13.10 and TDE R14 nightlies of Dec 26, 2013, I have QTCurve installed, but it is not in the style list in the control center.

There is also a strange behavior:
At first boot after I installed TDE, QTCurve is used, but it is not very stable, so much that I need to turn off the computer and reboot it. Now at the the second boot, TDE has switched to Plastik without asking for it and it is more stable.

Also, in nightlies of mid-december, when QTCurve still worked, there was some visual glitches, such as a square of not drawn background at the end of every toolbars and little corner of buttons not drawn as it should here and there. Also, there is still the problem of QTCurve not drawing properly the background of drop menus when it is set to display a gradient in it.

It is a regression, because QTCurve worked perfectly in KDE 3.5.10 and in SRU 3.5.13.2.

I am unable to replicate the problem with a git build from two days ago. QtCurve is in my kcontrol Style selection list and I can select and apply that style. When enabled I don't notice any problems with toolbar widgets.

How do I display gradients in drop boxes? Would you also post a screen grab?

PCLinuxOS non-official TDE remaster QTCurve config

Hi!

Here is the PCLinuxOS non-official TDE remaster QTCurve config file.
You will be able to import it in the config window of QTCurve.
The screenshot is from 3.5.13.2, but as you will see by using these settings under R14, the background of longer drop menus are not filled completely by the gradient.

It would be nice to have QTCurve fully functional by the release of R14, because it is the only theme available for TDE that is at least a little bit modern...

I will try to update my Ubuntu computer soon to see if the problem is still there, it was probably a bad build...

Please do. I don't use qtcurve, but the little I just tested, using your config file in attachment 1846 [details], indicates gradients are working in pop up menus. But I'm not a qtcurve user and I don't know to what degree the gradients should be.

Hi Darrell,

Have you tested it on Slack or on Ubuntu?

It seems like some problems like this and the one of TDM not working is Ubuntu-related. I am not a regular Ubuntu user, but it is easier for me to test R14 on it, since it is pre-compiled. That said, I would love to see how R14 works on PCLinuxOS.

I will wipe my test computer tomorrow and re-install Ubuntu 13.10 and R14.

Thanks!

I only use Slackware. For me to use Ubuntu would be like a fish walking on land. I just wouldn't survive. :)

If you want to try R14 on different distros, Francois was maintaining packages for several distros, At least, he was at one time. I no longer remember the URLs where he kept his packages.

QTCurve glitches

Hi Darrell,

Here is a screenshot of Ubuntu 13.10 with R14 of today with my QTCurve config file. Now it works partially, just like it worked on month ago and it is in the style list, just as it should.

But, as you will be able to see on the screenshot, the background of menus is not always filled with the gradient, just as it worked on 3.5.13.2.
''The bug is not reliable :) '' By clicking on different menus, sometimes the background is okay, sometimes it is completely transparent. As you'll see on the screenshot, the gradient is well drawn on the Office menus, but not for the K menu.

So that "bug" is fixed --- an installation error of some kind. :)

>as you will be able to see on the screenshot, the background of menus is
>not always filled with the gradient
I saw the same thing but was unsure of the degree of gradiation I should see. At this point one of the coders needs to help. :)

Alex, so is this bug fixed or not?
Comment 11 Alex Couture 2014-03-07 14:33:11 CST
Hi,

Yes, the fact that QTCurve was not in the list was installed, but not in the list was probably due to a bad build, at that time.

But, QTCurve itself is not 100% working on R14. It has many visual glitches if gradients are used as the background of toolbars and drop menus. The gradient does not fill the entire area, in a random way.

You can try my QTCurve config file to see how it reacts. It is in the attachments list. You just have to import it in the settings window of QTCurve, in the TDE Control Center.

It is a regression, because QTCurve worked perfectly in KDE 3.5.10 and in SRU 3.5.13.2.

You can look at bug 1489 too, which might be related to this one, if you have some time for it.

Thank you!

Thanks Alex.
I know QTCurve has glitches (there are probably a could of bugs open in it and I use QTCurve on my system too).
Also some glitches may have been caused by changes introduced last December, which I am going to address in bug 1857.
