When starting klcddimmer I am presented with a dialog:

Could not start the brightness adjustment command.
[Quit]

Apparently klcddimmer is a wrapper, with the default being set to smartdimmer.

The smartdimmer code is old and unlikely to be available with many distros:

I have a Thinkpad T400. Adjusting the brightness manually is straightforward with Fn-Home/End, which is less work than using an applet, but having this applet work automatically for Trinity users should be straightforward.

The help button in the preferences dialog opens the kicker handbook despite an lcddimmer handbook being installed.

The kclddimmer handbook is a joke --- literally. The entire handbook is written as a joke. "Lets you do absolutely nothing.... It slices, it dices...."

Select Help from the applet context menu results in a useless dialog:

This is a help box
[OK]

The klcddimmer preferences dialog is non-modal. The user cannot do anything else on the desktop while the dialog is open.

When the preferences dialog is open, the panel icon indicates the Configure Panel dialog is open rather than the klcddimmer dialog, which probably explains why the kicker handbook opens when selecting the Help button.

This applet was written many years ago and needs attention to get the code up to current standards.
