By default, Bugzilla does not search the list of RESOLVED bugs.
You can force it to do so by putting the upper-case word ALL in front of your search query, e.g.: ALL tdelibs
We recommend searching for bugs this way, as you may discover that your bug has already been resolved and fixed in a later release.

Description Darrell 2014-02-04 11:57:42 CST
Kaboodle is the default media player when no additional applications are
installed. That includes videos.

Unfortunately, seems kaboodle supports only older versions of avi and mpeg. Newer versions of those formats don't play. Despite the prevailing hatred for flash, flv nonetheless remains popular and kaboodle does not support flv.

Somebody familiar with video hopefully can improve kaboodle, perhaps grabbing code from kaffeine or kmplayer. We need a more robust default video player. kaboodle's interface is very simple and that is good for a default player, but kaboodle needs improved format support. Not everything under the sun, but some updates.

As far as I can tell this is due to our obsolete MIME type detection (KMimeMagic) not knowing about newer formats like flv--kaboodle uses Xine as its backend, and Xine can most definitely play flv, so if proper MIME detection can be implemented this bug should resolve itself.

I'm setting this as blocked on Bug 656.

Now that Bug 656 is fixed I was able to activate flv support for the arts xine plugin and kaboodle quite easily in git hashes 09a4688 (tdelibs) and 0ecfaa9 (tdemultimedia).

I'm not sure what other file types need to be added, but those two patches serve as a good template for any interested person to add new mimetypes to the list--no coding required. ;-) Just verify that Xine can in fact play the media type before adding it to the list and all should be good.

Seems to be working here, at least for flv files.
Comment 4 Timothy Pearson 2014-10-04 18:12:40 CDT
All right, I guess I'm going to close this and wait for someone to report kaboodle not playing with <insert obscure video format here> ;-)

Thanks for reporting!
