By default, Bugzilla does not search the list of RESOLVED bugs.
You can force it to do so by putting the upper-case word ALL in front of your search query, e.g.: ALL tdelibs
We recommend searching for bugs this way, as you may discover that your bug has already been resolved and fixed in a later release.

Description BryanFRitt 2010-05-20 13:09:26 CDT
KUbuntu 10.04

After upgrading all packages then adding the kde3 repositories
http://ppa.launchpad.net/kde3-maintainers/ppa/ubuntu
I try 'sudo apt-get install kubuntu-desktop-kde3' and I get
...
The following packages will be REMOVED:
  compiz-kde compizconfig-backend-kconfig kdelibs-data kdelibs4c2a
  kubuntu-default-settings network-manager-kde sudo
...
The following packages will be upgraded:

  openoffice.org-calc openoffice.org-core openoffice.org-draw
  openoffice.org-filter-binfilter openoffice.org-impress openoffice.org-math
  openoffice.org-officebean openoffice.org-writer python-uno

12 upgraded, 322 newly installed, 7 to remove and 6 not upgraded.
Need to get 231MB/313MB of archives.
After this operation, 683MB of additional disk space will be used.

and after doing a 'sudo apt-get upgrade' (without installing the kde3) I get:
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
The following packages have been kept back:
  openoffice.org openoffice.org-base openoffice.org-base-core
  openoffice.org-calc openoffice.org-core openoffice.org-draw

  openoffice.org-filter-mobiledev openoffice.org-java-common
  openoffice.org-report-builder-bin openoffice.org-style-galaxy
6 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 12 not upgraded.
Need to get 8,778kB/27.1MB of archives.
After this operation, 8,192B of additional disk space will be used.
Do you want to continue [Y/n]?

---

Sounds like if I do the upgrade/install kde3 and/or keep the repository, I might have to lose Compiz, and/or OpenOffice.org, and/or have a messed up installation.?
Comment 1 Timothy Pearson 2010-10-01 12:27:20 CDT
The Trinity project provides a patched version of OpenOffice.org that provides KDE3/Trinity support. It is identical to the stock version in all other respects.

Can you please verify that the Compiz issue is still present?

Thanks!

I uninstalled KDE3 it starting seeming weird that some apps of KDE3 were in KDE4 and some apps of KDE4 were in KDE3. (or at least it seamed that way)
When I uninstalled the KDE3 stuff I ran into this problem

(it really starts at the 2nd to last entry on the first page)

For the sake of testing this (after this post: Timothy Pearson 2010-10-01 12:27:20, the above was from before then)

Comment 5 Timothy Pearson 2012-05-26 13:33:44 CDT
It might be a good idea to split the Compiz/LibreOffice packages off into a separate trinity-extras repository, to avoid this kind of problem in the future.
Comment 6 Darrell 2013-05-22 19:53:29 CDT
Is this report still valid?
Comment 7 Timothy Pearson 2014-11-14 21:33:55 CST
No response in several years, and the LibreOffice packages have been provided by their own PPA for some time.

Marking fixed.
