By default, Bugzilla does not search the list of RESOLVED bugs.
You can force it to do so by putting the upper-case word ALL in front of your search query, e.g.: ALL tdelibs
We recommend searching for bugs this way, as you may discover that your bug has already been resolved and fixed in a later release.

Description Vitulor 2010-07-19 15:40:36 CDT
This is my first bug submission. Forgive me if its not perfect. I first added software, and updates so when the bug started I didn't what to look for. I formatted the drive, and did a fresh install of Kubuntu 10.04 KDE3 and this bug happens without any farther software added. If I leave it sit ... iit uses resources. I have since added Xchat and Superkaramba, but they play no part in whether this happens or not. It always happens. I installed the image I got here from http://apt.pearsoncomputing.net/cdimages/

I can boot the system, do absolutely nothing, leave it sit idle .... and in an hour or two time, the CPU is 100% and I am unable to use the system. If my terminal window was the last thing active, I can still use that. Nothing else responds.

Its is installed on an Intel Pentium III coppermine with 371MB of RAM being reported. The system is very old. It will run Kubuntu with kde4, but its slow and I dislike kde4. I was so happy to see KDE3 has continued. Thank you for your hard work.

I type "top" in a terminal and the CPU reports 100% by Xorg I am rather new to Linux and have no idea what to do to remedy this.

If you need more information, let me know and I will do my best to get it.

(I added the XFCE desktop and this does not occur when using that, but I want to use KDE3)

Thank you,
vitulor

This looks like a problem with your graphics driver, which is provided by Ubuntu, not the KDE3/Trinity project. It is likely that KDE3/Trinity is attempting to perform a perfectly legitimate graphics operation, and in the process triggers a bug in the graphics driver itself.

Please post which graphics hardware/driver you are using.

Most likely you will need to file this bug upstream against the appropriate graphics driver project in Ubuntu itself.
