By default, Bugzilla does not search the list of RESOLVED bugs.
You can force it to do so by putting the upper-case word ALL in front of your search query, e.g.: ALL tdelibs
We recommend searching for bugs this way, as you may discover that your bug has already been resolved and fixed in a later release.

Description Darrell 2014-12-30 18:16:32 CST
Fedora 21, R14.0.0.

The menu option is available when using TDM and KDM.

The option is not available when using GDM, SDDM, and LightDM. As TDE is not a mainstream desktop, this option should be available as other login managers are more likely to be the default in most distros.

To add, the other desktops do not support TDM. The problem then becomes this:

If TDM is used on a multi-user system, switching users is available and functional in the TDE and KDE desktops but not other desktop environments. The option to switch is available in the other desktops but switching fails with a message like this:

** (gdmflexiserver:8408): WARNING **: Unable to create transient display:
GDBus.Error:org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.ServiceUnknown: The name org.gnome.DisplayManager was not provided by any .service files

A quick but inconclusive test indicates KDM is affected the same way.

If GDM, SDDM, or LightDM is used, users in GNOME, MATE, Cinnamon, and Xfce will be able to switch but not TDE users because the option is not available.

Solutions:

* Ensure the TDE switching option is available and functional with other login managers. This would allow TDE to be used in any distro environment. To my knowledge, the login managers widely used are GDM, SDDM, and LightDM. The TDE switching option is already available with KDM.

* Ensure the switching option is functional in other desktops when using TDM. That would involve submitting patches to upstream desktop projects.

Because R14.0.2 is already tagged as final and waiting only for the completion of the build a few last packages, I joined this bug report to R14.0.3.

I tried now to see if there was any unified way to switch users in various display manager, but it seems that every display manager that solves individually. That's not good.

This is definitely not a bug with a simple solution.
