By default, Bugzilla does not search the list of RESOLVED bugs.
You can force it to do so by putting the upper-case word ALL in front of your search query, e.g.: ALL tdelibs
We recommend searching for bugs this way, as you may discover that your bug has already been resolved and fixed in a later release.

Description matism 2010-08-21 18:18:11 CDT
Followed installation procedure at:
http://apt.pearsoncomputing.net/install.html
Download went well. Install threw error message at sudo delete, and ended with an error code several minutes later (Error code =1, maybe?) Broken packages fixed with Synaptic, but attempting to run Firefox gives attached error dialogue. Similar error dialogue with GIMP and other programs. Attempted complete removal and reinstallation of Firefox and associated packages with Synaptic. Removal and reinstallation successful, but error dialogue persists. I like Firefox, and can't seem to find a way to import its bookmarks into Konqueror or other Linux browser...

Help? Thanks! And thanks for creating this project. I REALLY like KDE 3.5 when it works!

Sorry - it's an installation on Ubuntu Lucid - 10.04
Comment 3 Timothy Pearson 2010-08-21 18:41:41 CDT
This is caused by a corrupt or incomplete installation, probably due to the interruption you mentioned.

To fix it, install or reinstall the following packages:

kgtk-config-bluefish
kgtk-config-eclipse
kgtk-config-firefox
kgtk-config-gimp
kgtk-config-inkscape
kgtk-config-kino
kgtk-config-opera-qt3
kgtk-config-scribus
kgtk-config-thunderbir
kgtk-qt3-kde3
Comment 4 Timothy Pearson 2010-08-21 18:42:00 CDT
Note, above should be:
kgtk-config-thunderbird

not:
kgtk-config-thunderbir
Comment 5 matism 2010-08-21 19:03:39 CDT
Tried the reinstallation (all were already installed) in Synaptic. All completed successfullly. Restarted computer to make sure everything took, but same error dialogue reappears...

Did get the "thunderbird" correction, although Synaptic found it without the 2nd "d". Copied and pasted to make sure I didn't make a typo. Performed in the listed sequence, if that matters.

Are you trying to launch Firefox outside of a KDE3/Trinity session? If so, you might run into that problem because kgtk2-wrapper lives in /opt/kde3/bin. Try adding /opt/kde3/bin to your PATH and see if that fixes the problem.
Comment 7 matism 2010-08-21 19:25:32 CDT
That was the problem. Is there a way to universally change "PATH", or do I have to do it in each instance for starting each program? Sorry! I'm Windows-based and not that knowledgeable on Linux or KDE. I was able to "fix" Firefox and GIMP on the Gnome panel, but don't see a way to fix it in the Applications menu or elsewhere...

When you log in to a KDE3/Trinity session the path is automatically set to include /opt/kde3/bin, along with a few other paths.

If you want to run Firefox, etc. outside of a KDE3/Trinity session (e.g. in Gnome), you have two choices:
1. Remove the kgtk-config-* packages.
2. Add the /opt/kde3/bin directory to the system wide path.

For #2, more info is available at http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=269793.
