We recommend searching for bugs this way, as you may discover that your bug has already been resolved and fixed in a later release.

Inconsistent selection in konqueror

If I want to select an odd block of files and I use PcManFm or just about any other file manager, all I have to do is select the first one, shift and click the last and all in between are selected. This doesn't work correctly in Konqueror's icon view mode.

In the screenshot I selected file "Textdatei_01" then Shift Click "Textdatei_10". I would expect all files between those to be selected - as happens in other file managers. The actual selection is as shown, see the Konqueror (left window), compared to PcManFm (right window).

Exact steps to reproduce:
- Fresh TDE stable (14.0.4) installation on Debian Jessie.
- Run Konqueror and navigate to directory containing multiple files.
- Ensure icon view mode is set.
- Click to a file to select it, then shift-click an odd file in the view to select a block.
- Bug: Selected block is not consistent, as shown in the screenshot attached.

Hi there,
I would not say Konqueror behaviour is inconsistent, rather the opposite to be honest.
In icon view mode, there is not really a concept of "sequence of items" because icons can be placed anywhere on the screen and not necessarily grid-aligned.
In konqueror you click on a first item, then you shift and click on a second item. A rectangle from the first to the second point is created and every items within (or intersecting) the rectangle border is selected. That seems very consistent to me.
What happen with other FM if icons are not grid aligned? Try moving a few icons here and there and if possible post a comparing screenshot.

Anyhow I see you point as well, so rather than a bug fix we should consider this as an enhancement request, where an option is provided to select items as:
- konqueror way: create and select within the rectangle only
- other way: select all items within the start and end point. If in "icon view" mode, the selection would proceed horizontally, if in "multicolumn" icon mode, the selection would proceed vertically.

Opinions from other users are also welcomed.

Here I see three options in the selection method:

1) When selecting by gragging mouse, it is always a rectangle that encloses selectionm because using the mouse is normally entered rectangle. It seems to be the correct behavior.

2) When selecting using the keyboard (shift + key for move), entries are selected sequentially from line to line. It seems to be the correct behavior.

3) When selecting the first and last item by mouse, but without dragging. There could be a change. Currently, a selection is made by rectangle => like a mouse dragging. But more useful may be the selection from line to line.

Yes, it would be a great solution.

Yes, I agree that this is not a bug. Nonetheless, I believe most users would expect selection method described. Feedback from others would be helpful in this case.

I agree as well that changing option 3 as per Slavek comments make sense.
