By default, Bugzilla does not search the list of RESOLVED bugs.
You can force it to do so by putting the upper-case word ALL in front of your search query, e.g.: ALL tdelibs
We recommend searching for bugs this way, as you may discover that your bug has already been resolved and fixed in a later release.

Description Phillip Reed 2009-01-22 08:46:33 CST
I have both Gnome and KDE3 installed on my computer, and, hence, both the gdm and kdm-kde3 packages. I prefer to use KDM as my login manager. However, it seems that every time an upgrade to kdm-kde3 is made available and I install it, my default login manager gets set back to gdm. Of course, this is easy to fix with "sudo dpkg-reconfigure gdm", but it would still be nice if it didn't happen.

dont ejecute install with sudo, u must be use real console on upgrade or install, (try test debian too even winbuntu)

i use kdm-kde3 and works fine, the problems is other now, that /etc/init.d/kdm dont work, only /etc/init.d/kdm-trinity

i think the update-alternatives system on post install not registred well the display manager

Yes, same here for me.
Comment 3 Timothy Pearson 2011-09-30 13:23:57 CDT
Trinity uses the same login manager registration system as KDE4. Therefore, the problem you have reported should also exist in KDE4. Can you confirm this?
Comment 4 Phillip Reed 2011-09-30 13:33:26 CDT
I'm not sure why this bug is getting attention now, as it's been almost three year since I reported it. My main workstation nowadays is running Kubuntu and using the stock KDE4 environment, and I don't even have Gnome installed, so I won't be able to reproduce this again.
Comment 5 Timothy Pearson 2011-09-30 14:09:04 CDT
OK. Other people may have the same problem though, so I will leave this bug open in case someone else would like to troubleshoot the issue.

Is this report still valid? Do the GIT related XDG changes resolve the problem?
Comment 7 Darrell 2013-08-17 12:57:46 CDT
Closing due to lack of response.

I'm using trinity 14.0.5 from preliminary stable builds on devuan ascii (debian
stretch).

Through the most recent upgrade:

tdm-trinity:amd64 (4:14.0.5~pre39-0debian9.0.0+6, 4:14.0.5~pre42-0debi
an9.0.0+6)

I noticed that the default display manager got overwritten as reported originally by Phillip Reed.
$ cat /etc/X11/default-display-manager
/usr/bin/slim

I believe this happened already at the previous upgrade from ~pre36 to ~pre39
after slim had been installed, too.

I'm sorry, I was too quick to report. After what's been discussed in the referenced thread it is probably a slim or dpkg or debconf bug.

So what to do with this bug? Close again ok?
Comment 11 Michele Calgaro 2018-07-27 01:23:18 CDT
then closing again.

Alright. I tried again with different window managers (slim, ldm, xdm) but with now tdm-trinity 14.0.5~pre45-0debian9.0.0+7 (PSB) installed I can't reproduce the erroneous behaviour.

I'm not saying, the bug was in the tdm-trinity package as I don't know the internals and interdependencies of package - dpkg - debconf well enough to understand the underlying mechanism.

Great, thanks Stefan. If at any time you think you can reproduce this systematically and that it is really a tdm issue, feel free to reopen this bug :-)
