By default, Bugzilla does not search the list of RESOLVED bugs.

We recommend searching for bugs this way, as you may discover that your bug has already been resolved and fixed in a later release.

output of: apt-get install -s desktop-base-trinity kde-trinity

Hi,

good, that you are keeping KDE 3.5 alive.
I encountered the following during
the (simulated) installation of TDE 3.5.12:

When I do
root@philipp:~# apt-get install -s desktop-base-trinity kde-trinity
on my debian squeeze box (AMD64) I get

...
The following packages will be REMOVED:
  desktop-base gnome gnome-desktop-environment sudo
...

and thus apt like to deinstall a lot of gnome packages.
Any hint for this?

Thanks

Ralf

So does 3.5.13.

I've managed to arm-wrestle a combined TDE/Gnome setup into place except that desktop-base-trinity is missing. (I can post the list of packages if you wish.) Attempting to add this threatens to remove Gnome. Without desktop-base KDM complains it can't find debian-moreblue.

Looking at the contents of this package it seems to consist of artwork etc, no binaries. Some of the files would overwrite the equivalents from Gnome. It's not clear to me that installing revised Gnome artwork justifies removing Gnome, especially as the revised files would be irrelevant without Gnome.

I'll experiment with installing some of the files manually & report back.

I extracted the data.tar.gz file from the .deb. The gnome-specific files are few. They comprise a few graphics with "sid" in their filename which don't conflict with the files in Squeeze which is what I'm using. The other file is /usr/share/gnome-background-properties/debian.xml which defines a wallpaper and the only difference is that it defines the name as "Debian Lenny" whereas the existing version is just "Debian".

I copied the tar file to / & extracted it with tar xfk to avoid overwriting any existing files. kdm is no longer complaining about the missing theme.

The only downside is that on logging out the colour scheme of the login scheme is now a monochrome. I don't know if this is a genuine theme of some sort but it seems likely as there are still no complaints about a missing theme. I can live with it.

There may have been issues if I had Splashy installed which I don't.

Looking at the control there is code in there to change the grub background but I've left that alone, again, I can live with the original Debian version.

This should be fixed in desktop-base-trinity 5.0.3-8. If the problem persists please reopen this bug report.

Thanks for reporting!

Thanks.

I've had it installed for several days with no problems. Replaces Debian desktop-base which defaulted KDM user ID to last user. This version leaves it blank which is, of course, the correct behaviour from a security point of view.
