systemsettings -> print -> Add printer wizard (yes, I clicked the rootify button).

Select Network Printer, put in IP of printer, click next.

Manufacturer and Model windows are blank. Click Postscript printer, get Error dialog with "Unable to find the PostScript driver".

I am unable to replicate this bug on my development systems.

Do you have CUPS installed on your machine? Ubuntu sometimes leaves it off for some reason.

Other than that I would see if there is a /root/.trinity folder and try removing/renaming it, then running the add printer wizard again.

Renaming /root/.trinity to /root/OLD.trinity had no effect.

Have you ever seen the "Rebuilding print driver database" popup dialog? If not I wonder if the database generation utility is just not being run for some reason.

Try running the driver database build too manually like so:
kdesudo /opt/trinity/bin/make_driver_db_cups /usr/share/cups/model /usr/share/foomatic/db/source /root/.trinity/share/apps/kdeprint/printerdb_cups.txt

I also wonder if the issue brought up in this mailing list post may be related at all: http://trinity-devel.pearsoncomputing.net/?0::2243

Let me know if running the tool manually solves the problem...

Correction: The command should be:
kdesudo "/opt/kde3/bin/make_driver_db_cups /usr/share/foomatic/db/source /root/.kde3/share/apps/kdeprint/printerdb_cups.txt"

As you can tell I'm rushing a bit here...

On older systems the kde3 command above would work. On the newer nightly build systems this command should work:

kdesudo "/opt/trinity/bin/make_driver_db_cups /usr/share/foomatic/db/source /root/.trinity/share/apps/kdeprint/printerdb_cups.txt"

I would also be curious if /root/.trinity/share/apps/kdeprint/printerdb_cups.txt actually exists BEFORE you manually run the database generation tool.

On closer inspection, this report is an exact duplicate of Bug 697 (where discussion is continued).
